(DE) Freie Radios 3.0: Rebellion der Maschinen
KI ist seit geraumer Zeit in aller Munde – auch in der Welt des Journalismus und des Radios. Die ersten Sender haben gänzlich Moderator*innen durch KI ersetzt, Wetterberichte und Verkehrsmeldungen werden von KI generiert, Startups bieten KI-basierte Echtzeit-Transkription von Radioprogrammen, KI-generierte Bilder illustrieren Stories und KI-Tools für Journalist*innen werden vielerorts auf dem Markt und in Fortbildungen beworben. Das Versprechen: Weniger mühsame Arbeit, mehr Effizienz und höherer Output. Logischerweise wird auch in freien Radios von Sendungsmachenden mit KI experimentiert und bei der letzten Zukunftswerkstatt Community Media in Ulm gab es alleine drei Panels die sich mit KI befasst haben, vom Einsatz generativer KI, über KI als Tool im Audioschnitt sowie zu den Auswirkungen auf Statuten und Programmrichtlinien.
Gleichzeitig lässt die Kritik an KI, gerade von linksradikaler Seite, auch nicht ab, egal ob es um den Diebstahl von geistigem Eigentum für das „trainieren“ der KI geht, ihren hohen Strom und Wasserverbrauch oder um gesellschaftliche und politische Folgen, die sich aus dem hohen Anteil an Falschinformationen, unzutreffenden Zusammenfassungen, Tendenzen zur Reduktion politischer Diversität und der zunehmenden Delegation politischer Entscheidungen an KI-Programme speist.
Vor diesem Hintergrund ist es höchste Zeit zu diskutieren ob, wo und zu welchen Zwecken diese Technolgie in freien Radios eine Rolle spielt, also innerhalb dieser diversen und grundlegend emanzipatorisch ausgerichteten Medien mit ihrem ganz eigenen Anspruch an Sendungen und Journalismus. In diesem Workshop wollen wir uns dazu verständigen – auf der Basis der bisherigen Erfahrungen, ergänzt durch Kontextwissen und technische Hintergründe in der Form von kurzen Inputs. Alles mit dem Ziel eine -zumindest grobe – Vorstellung zu bekommen, wie ein gemeinsamer Umgang mit dieser (potenziell) disruptiven Technologie aussehen kann und soll, imKontext der konkreten KI-basierten Arbeitsprozesse, welche uns zur Verfügung stehen.

(EN) Free Radios 3.0: Rise of the machines
AI has been on everyone’s lips for some time now – including in the world of journalism and radio. The first radio stations have completely replaced show hosts with AI, weather reports and traffic reports are generated by AI, start-ups offer AI-based real-time transcription of radio programs, AI-generated images illustrate stories and AI tools for journalists are advertised on the market and in training courses. The promise: Less tedious work, more efficiency and higher output. Naturally, independent radio broadcasters are also experimenting with AI and at the last Community Media Congress in Ulm, there were three panels alone that dealt with AI, from the use of generative AI to AI as a tool in audio editing and the effects on statutes and program guidelines.
At the same time, the criticism of AI, especially from the radical left, is not abating, regardless of whether it is about the theft of intellectual property for the “training” of AI, its high electricity and water consumption or the social and political consequences of the high proportion of false information, inaccurate summaries, tendencies to reduce political diversity and the increasing delegation of political decisions to AI programs.
Against this background, it is high time to discuss whether, where and for what purposes this technology plays a role in independent radio stations, i.e. within these diverse and fundamentally emancipatory media with their very own standards of broadcasting and journalism. In this workshop we want to discuss this – on the basis of previous experience, supplemented by contextual knowledge and technical background in the form of short inputs. All with the aim of getting an – at least rough – idea of what a common approach to this (potentially) disruptive technology can and should look like, in the concrete context of which AI-based workflows we have at our disposal.

(FR) Radios libres 3.0 : Le Soulèvement des machines
L’IA est sur toutes les lèvres depuis un certain temps déjà, y compris dans le monde du journalisme et de la radio. Les premières stations de radio ont entièrement remplacé les animateurs par l’IA, les bulletins météorologiques et les bulletins de circulation sont générés par l’IA, des start-ups proposent la transcription en temps réel des émissions de radio basée sur l’IA, des images générées par l’IA illustrent les reportages et des outils d’IA pour les journalistes sont annoncés sur le marché et dans les cours de formation. La promesse : moins de travail fastidieux, plus d’efficacité et un meilleur rendement. Naturellement, les radiodiffuseurs indépendants expérimentent également l’IA et, lors du dernier congrès des médias communautaires à Ulm, trois panels ont traité de l’IA, de l’utilisation de l’IA générative à l’IA en tant qu’outil d’édition audio, en passant par les effets sur les statuts et les lignes directrices en matière de programmes.
Dans le même temps, les critiques à l’encontre de l’IA, notamment de la part de la gauche radicale, ne faiblissent pas, qu’il s’agisse du vol de la propriété intellectuelle pour la « formation » de l’IA, de sa consommation élevée d’électricité et d’eau ou des conséquences sociales et politiques de la forte proportion de fausses informations, de résumés inexacts, de la tendance à réduire la diversité politique et de la délégation croissante des décisions politiques aux programmes de l’IA.
Dans ce contexte, il est grand temps d’examiner si, où et à quelles fins cette technologie joue un rôle dans les stations de radio indépendantes, c’est-à-dire dans ces médias diversifiés et fondamentalement émancipateurs qui ont leurs propres normes en matière de radiodiffusion et de journalisme. Dans cet atelier, nous voulons discuter de cette question – sur la base d’expériences antérieures, complétées par des connaissances contextuelles et un contexte technique sous la forme de courtes contributions. Tout cela dans le but de se faire une idée – au moins approximative – de ce que peut et doit être une approche commune de cette technologie (potentiellement) perturbatrice, dans le contexte concret des flux de travail basés sur l’IA dont nous disposons.

في ظل هذه الخلفية، حان الوقت لمناقشة ما إذا كانت هذه التكنولوجيا تلعب دورًا في الإذاعات المستقلة، أي ضمن هذه الوسائل الإعلامية المتنوعة والمتحررة في الأساس بمعاييرها الخاصة في البث والصحافة، وأين ولأي غرض. في ورشة العمل هذه نريد مناقشة هذا الأمر – على أساس الخبرة السابقة، مدعومًا بالمعرفة السياقية والخلفية التقنية في شكل مدخلات قصيرة. كل ذلك بهدف الحصول على فكرة – على الأقل تقريبية – عن الشكل الذي يمكن وينبغي أن يبدو عليه النهج المشترك لهذه التكنولوجيا (المحتملة) المدمرة في السياق الملموس لسير العمل القائم على الذكاء الاصطناعي الذي لدينا تحت تصرفنا.
